Safeguarding at Silverwood School
At Silverwood School, the safety and wellbeing of every child is our highest priority. We are fully committed to creating a safe, nurturing environment where all pupils are protected, respected, and supported to thrive.
We understand that our pupils may have additional vulnerabilities, and we take a proactive, child-centred approach to safeguarding. All staff receive regular training, and we work closely with families and professionals to ensure that concerns are identified early and responded to effectively.
Our safeguarding practices are based on:
-
Strong relationships built on trust, consistency, and clear communication
-
Robust policies and procedures that are regularly reviewed
-
A listening culture, where pupils feel safe and know they will be heard
-
Close partnerships with parents, carers, health and social care professionals
If you have any concerns about the safety or wellbeing of a child, please contact the school’s Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) immediately. Contact details and our full Safeguarding and Child Protection Policy are available on request or on our policies page.
Safeguarding is everyone’s responsibility, together we can keep children safe.
Lockdown Procedures at Silverwood School
At Silverwood School, the safety of our pupils and staff is always our top priority. While extremely rare, there may be occasions when we need to activate a lockdown procedure to keep everyone safe inside the school building.
A lockdown is a precautionary measure designed to protect pupils and staff from a potential risk in the surrounding area or on site. This could include incidents such as an intruder, a nearby police operation, or a safety concern in the community.
How We Prepare
-
We have clear lockdown procedures in place on all campuses.
-
Staff are fully trained and practise these procedures regularly.
-
Lockdown drills are carried out in a way that is calm, clear, and sensitive to the needs of our pupils.
-
We use visual supports, routines, and familiar staff to help pupils feel safe and reassured during drills.
Communication with Families
In the event of a real lockdown, we will contact parents and carers as soon as it is safe to do so, using our usual communication systems. Please avoid calling the school during a lockdown, as this can delay important actions being taken.
If you have any questions about our lockdown procedures or how we support your child during these situations, please contact your campus team or a member of the leadership team.
Keeping your child safe, calm and supported is at the heart of everything we do.
