Building Community, Inspiring Learning

Wet grass

At Silverwood School, we believe that every pupil deserves the opportunity to develop their skills, interests, and aspirations in preparation for a fulfilling future. Our curriculum supports this intent by enabling all learners to flourish and thrive, both within the school community and in the wider community, as pupils and into adulthood.

This is reflected throughout our values-led curriculum and is exemplified by the wide range of opportunities offered to all pupils, allowing them to experience a personalised approach to learning that prepares them for adult life. This includes the expectation that every pupil will have opportunities to practise work-based and employability skills.

In Year 11, formal learners are encouraged to identify and arrange their own week-long work experience placements within their local communities. Successful placements have been undertaken in local schools, cafés, shops, and a wide range of businesses. Support is provided by school staff for pupils who require it. We are very grateful to all the employers who offer this valuable opportunity to our learners.

Pupils are supported to pursue job opportunities that may arise from these experiences. There is follow-up work upon completion of work experience, where successes are celebrated and challenges are reflected upon.
