Parent Engagement

11/1/2023

Picture
At Silverwood all parents/carers are equally valued as part of our school community. We recognise parent, carers and families are the most important influence in a child’s life.

Parental engagement has a significant impact on a child’s learning and has a positive effect on educational outcomes and wellbeing.

We therefore promote positive partnerships with all our families and promote regular communication between home and school.

Our approach provides a framework in which all parent/carers can engage meaningfully in the education of their child and school life, express their views and have these taken into consideration on matters effecting the education of their child.

Our Aim:

  • To enhance the learning experiences of all pupils.
  • To encourage parents and carers to be involved in their children’s learning.
  • Provide a partnership between home and school, seeking to ensure that families feel welcome and valued.
  • Recognise that parent and carer involvement is multi-dimensional and that families have a role to play in fulfilling our core vision, building community and inspiring learning.
  • We place our shared school values at the heart of everything we do.

Our Commitment:

  • To establish and sustain a positive learning culture where parental input is welcomed, respected and valued.
  • Implement strategies to identify and remove discriminatory barriers that limit engagement by pupils, parents/carers and our diverse communities.
  • Actively explore and utilise opportunities to further engage parents at school and at home to support pupil outcomes.
  • Inform pupils and parent/carers about learning expectations and their child’s educational progress.
  • Support opportunities for parent/carers to develop or strengthen skills and knowledge related to their child’s specific complex needs.
  • Review and establish self‐ assessment processes to determine the effectiveness of our parent engagement strategies.

Self-Evaluation:

We continue to evaluate the effectiveness of our partnership with our parents and carers by:
  • Attendance at parents evening/ consultations/ open days/ workshops
  • Feedback from parent surveys
  • Attendance at school events
